Zarautz is a municipality in Spain, in the province of Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country. On 1 January 2025 it had 23,496 inhabitants according to the INE municipal register (padrón), over an area of about 13.7 km².
With about 1,715 inhabitants per km², it is one of the most densely populated areas in the country, part of a large metropolitan area. Of the 34 municipalities in the province of Gipuzkoa with at least 5,000 inhabitants, it is number 5 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 15 km west of San Sebastián, the provincial capital. The nearest major city is Bilbao, about 60 km away.
