Irun is a municipality in Spain, in the province of Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country. On 1 January 2025 it had 63,835 inhabitants according to the INE municipal register (padrón), over an area of about 42.9 km².
Density, at about 1,488 inhabitants per km², is that of a populous urban area, with residential districts, services and businesses. Of the 34 municipalities in the province of Gipuzkoa with at least 5,000 inhabitants, it is number 2 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 17 km east of San Sebastián, the provincial capital. The nearest major city is Bilbao, about 95 km away.
