The municipality of Elgoibar lies in the province of Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country: according to official INE figures for 1 January 2025 it is home to 11,705 people, over about 39.9 km².
With about 293 inhabitants per km², it combines a medium-sized town with residential districts, farmland and business areas. Of the 34 municipalities in the province of Gipuzkoa with at least 5,000 inhabitants, it is number 17 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 35 km west of San Sebastián, the provincial capital. The nearest major city is Bilbao, about 45 km away.
