The municipality of Azkoitia lies in the province of Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country: according to official INE figures for 1 January 2025 it is home to 11,774 people, over about 56.4 km².
With about 209 inhabitants per km², it combines a medium-sized town with residential districts, farmland and business areas. Of the 34 municipalities in the province of Gipuzkoa with at least 5,000 inhabitants, it is number 16 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 31 km south-west of San Sebastián, the provincial capital. The nearest major city is Bilbao, about 50 km away.
