Vélez-Rubio is a municipality in Spain, in the province of Almería, in Andalusia. On 1 January 2025 it had 6,685 inhabitants according to the INE municipal register (padrón), over an area of about 278.5 km².
With about 24 inhabitants per km², it is a sparsely populated area of countryside, small settlements and wide open spaces, like much of inland Spain. Of the 21 municipalities in the province of Almería with at least 5,000 inhabitants, it is number 18 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 83 km north of Almería, the provincial capital. The nearest major city is Malaga, about 230 km away.
