The municipality of Sax lies in the province of Alicante, in the Valencian Community: according to official INE figures for 1 January 2025 it is home to 10,346 people, over about 62.4 km².
With about 166 inhabitants per km², it combines a medium-sized town with residential districts, farmland and business areas. Of the 61 municipalities in the province of Alicante with at least 5,000 inhabitants, it is number 38 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 30 km north-west of Alicante, the provincial capital. The nearest major city is Valencia, about 110 km away.
