The municipality of Getxo lies in the province of Biscay, in the Basque Country: according to official INE figures for 1 January 2025 it is home to 75,752 people, over about 13.0 km².
With about 5,827 inhabitants per km², it is one of the most densely populated areas in the country, part of a large metropolitan area. Of the 35 municipalities in the province of Biscay with at least 5,000 inhabitants, it is number 3 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 13 km north-west of Bilbao, the provincial capital.
