The municipality of Durango lies in the province of Biscay, in the Basque Country: according to official INE figures for 1 January 2025 it is home to 30,192 people, over about 10.3 km².
With about 2,931 inhabitants per km², it is one of the most densely populated areas in the country, part of a large metropolitan area. Of the 35 municipalities in the province of Biscay with at least 5,000 inhabitants, it is number 8 by population.
