Castro de Rei is a municipality in Spain, in the province of Lugo, in Galicia. On 1 January 2025 it had 5,001 inhabitants according to the INE municipal register (padrón), over an area of about 177.1 km².
Population density is about 28 per km²: a partly rural municipality, with a main town and scattered villages or developments. Of the 12 municipalities in the province of Lugo with at least 5,000 inhabitants, it is number 12 by population.
As the crow flies it lies about 22 km north-east of Lugo, the provincial capital. The nearest major city is A Coruña, about 80 km away.
