As early as the 1960s Ibiza drew actors, models, musicians and aristocrats seeking freedom and discretion. Today the island is one of the international jet set's favourite destinations, with one of the richest luxury offerings in the Mediterranean.
Beach clubs
Beach clubs are the heart of daytime glamour: sunbeds and canopies on the sand, DJ sets, restaurants, champagne and cocktails until sunset. The most famous are at Ses Salines, Cala Jondal, popular with yachts, and Platja d'en Bossa, next to the big clubs. Many require sunbed booking and a minimum spend.
Yachts and marinas
In summer the coves of Ibiza and Formentera fill with yachts and sailing boats. The luxury marinas are Marina Ibiza and Marina Botafoch, opposite Dalt Vila, with restaurants, boutiques and bars. Chartering a boat, with or without a skipper, for a day among the coves is a favourite experience.
Restaurants and dinner shows
Ibiza has fine-dining restaurants and trendy venues, from beach dinners to Michelin-starred restaurants and dinner shows with acrobats, dancers and DJs, such as Lío. Many fashionable restaurants are in Ibiza town, the Marina and Santa Gertrudis inland.
Hotels and villas
The island has many luxury hotels and boutique hotels, often in restored fincas inland, and hundreds of private villas with pools and sea views, let at very high prices in high season.
Tips
- High-season prices are among the highest in Europe: always check the menu and terms before sitting down, especially at beach clubs and on yachts.
- For a cheaper experience, choose traditional chiringuitos and the free sunsets of Cala Comte or Benirràs.
- In the evening the Marina and Dalt Vila are the stage for the island's elegant dolce far niente.
